Fota Island Golf Club - Cobh (Cork), Ireland
Fota Island Golf Club is located just a few minutes ride from Cork City with
its international airport and passenger ferry terminal. To the east lie the
ports of Waterford and Rosslare. Fota Island is very much a traditional golf

enjoyment. The clubhouse incorporates the creative conversion of some beautiful

Royal Portrush - Derry, Ireland
This club was founded in 1888. The ruins of 13th century Dnuluce Castle
overlook it, and one of its courses is named after this ruin. This club is
famous for the magnificent turf and superb golf holes, and is on everyone short
list of top Irish courses, to visit. Royal Portrush is about 40/45 minutes
driving time and usually listed among the top 20 best links courses in the
world. The problem is that because of its popularity tee times can be difficult
to obtain. Club, trolley and caddie hire available. Practice and full catering
facilities also available. Named after the 13th century ruins, this is as fine a
links course, as you will find anywhere. Par 73 ~ 6,772 Yards. Course review: I
played both the Old Course and Glashedy in September 2001 and it was one of the
most satisfying golf experiences I've had--and not because of my good play. Both
courses are stunningly beautiful and full of challenge. At times it's difficult
to concentrate due to the beautiful scenery. The wind is constant--bring your
low ball some warm clothes! The courses are very different and one could spend
many days here alternating courses and never get bored. Both courses are great
links tests of golf and I cannot wait to return. The clubhouse is friendly and
has good food, and after 18 holes of battling the wind, you'll be ready for a
few pints.” Par 73, 6772 Yards.
Waterford Castle Golf Club - Waterford, Ireland
Waterford Castle Golf Club, Ireland's only true island course is situated in
the estuary of the River Suir, one mile downstream of Waterford City. It is an
18-hole course full of championship standards, designed by a team headed by Des
Smyth, a former Ryder Cup player and a current member of the European tour. With
sand-based tees and greens and a full irrigation system to tees, greens and
fairways, the course also features many mature plantations, a number of
artificial lakes to add to the beautiful park-land setting and superb bunkering,
strategically placed to test the long hitter. At almost 6,800 yards off the back
tees, the course will present a real challenge for the discerning golfer wishing
to test his skill in a magnificent location. For ladies the 5,550-yard course is
equally demanding and rewarding. Par 72, 6,790 Yards.
Royal County Down Golf Club - Belfast, Ireland
Since 1889, when the game of golf came to Newcastle, Royal County Down has
played host to some of the most prestigious championships. It is considered to
be one of the most admired seaside courses in the world due to its challenge and
beauty. The Annesley course complements the championship links by offering a
less formidable, yet extremely character-filled game. There are amazing
panoramic views of the sea, the bay and the mountains. It will also play host to
the 2007 Walker Cup. "Royal County Down is a pure links, in the truest sense of
the word. My advice to anyone playing this great course is to keep it very
straight off the tee - stray from the fairways at your peril! It is a tremendous
test of golf and the outward half especially is as fine a nine holes as I have
ever played" says Tom Watson. Par 71, 7,037 Yardage.
K Club - Dublin, Ireland
Designed by Arnold Palmer in 1991 the young K-Club course is a waterman's
dream. Running along the River Liffey on three different holes the course also
consists of nearly every other form of water, from man made lagoons to ponds to
streams and lakes. The course which covers 220 acres of Kildare woodland, is
also known for it's lush green fairways and meticulous manicuring. Par 72, 7,159
Yards.
Portmarnock Golf Club - Dublin, Ireland
Portmarnock Links is generally considered to be one of the finest course in
Ireland, it is a majestic links with classic links tradition. Portmarnock Links
is rated 38 in the Top 100 world courses and 7 in the 100 greatest courses in
the British Isles. Par 72, 7,312 Yards.
Faith Legg Golf and Country Club - Dunmore East,
Ireland
Located six miles from Waterford City and set amidst the treescaped
surroundings of Faithlegg, this 72-par parkland golf course measures almost
7,000 yards from the championship tees. Some wicked slopes and burrows on the
immaculate greens, undulating fairways and strategically placed water hazards
are just some of the novel features incorporated into this Patrick Merrigan
designed course whose philosophy was that " the design solution was in the
landscape". He sensitively integrated the course into a landscape textured with
mature trees and flowing parkland. This classic site on the banks of the River
Suir, backed by periods residence, is ideal for players seeking tranquillity and
golf challenge.
Dromoland Golf and Country Club - County Clare,
Ireland
Dromoland Golf & Country Club is set within the 360 acre estate of
Dromoland Castle. The castle and estate date back to the 16th century, while the
parkland golf course has developed a fine reputation as a top venue over the
past few decades. The golf course is set within an estate of rich woodland
around a huge natural lake and offers extensive views of the beautifully
restored Dromoland Castle. Over the latter holes, expansive landscape views of
the River Shannon complement the challenge offered by the golf course, while the
River Rine also gently meanders its way through the estate. Though a relatively
short course, measuring just over 6,000 yards, there are plenty of reasons it
should not be taken lightly, as you will discover when you get the chance to
play. You will encounter rolling hills, centuries old trees and water hazards,
which will test golfing prowess to the limit. The beauty and serenity of the
location as well as the density of the estates' wildlife enrich the golfing
experience. Deer often venture towards the lakeshore for a drink in the setting
sun, different breeds of pheasant can be seen in their hundreds all over the
course, while the whole surrounding woodland is rich in chorus of birdsong. In
recent years, Dromoland has been the home of the "Whyte and McKay Pro Celebrity
Golf Tournament". During this time, such noted players as Gary Player, Sandy
Lyle, Sam Torrance and Hale Irwin have all played the course and were united in
their high praise of the course layout and challenge. Par 71, 6,098 Yards.
